Current Wave of Terrorism in Pakistan: Recent Situation
It was a time of Zuhar Prayer. They were
saying prayer in the mosque of Police Lines Peshawar, when a suicide bomber
exploded him inside the mosque. All of a sudden they were bleeding, they were
crying with the pain of injuries. The building of mosque started to collapse. They
were buried under the rubble of mosque. Human organs were scattered here and
there. The carpets and walls of the mosque were smeared with human blood.
Humanity was groaning. The whole atmosphere became mournful.
This was the picture of a mosque of Pakistan
in Peshawar city after it was hit by a suicide bomber. As a result of this
blast about 102 persons were killed and more than 200 sustained injuries. This
was the biggest attack by the terrorists during last FOUR YEARS. Tehrik-e-Talban
Pakistan has taken the responsibility of this attack through an email. The
incident took place in the mosque in the Police Lines of Peshawar situated in
highly security zone. It was result of a major security lapse.
Pakistan has been dealing with terrorism for decades, but the
current wave of terrorism has taken an unprecedented toll on the country. From
bombings to targeted killings, it has become increasingly difficult for
Pakistan to protect its citizens from the constant threat of terrorism. With no
clear end in sight, it's important to understand what is causing this current
wave of terrorism in Pakistan and what can be done to address the issue.
The Nature of the Attacks
The present wave of terrorist attacks in Pakistan has been
characterized by a number of high-profile targets, including government and
military installations, as well as civilian locations. In recent years, the
majority of attacks have been suicide bombings or targeted shootings, with the
intention of causing maximum damage. There have also been a number of other
smaller-scale attacks such as bomb threats, car bombs, and arson. Many of these
attacks have been directed against public infrastructure, such as schools,
hospitals, and places of worship. These attacks are often indiscriminate and
aim to create terror among the public.
The Victims
The
present wave of terrorism in Pakistan has left countless innocent civilians
dead or wounded. In 2019 alone, according to the South Asian Terrorism Portal
(SATP), there were at least 1,220 casualties due to terrorism in Pakistan.
These victims include innocent men, women and children, as well as security
personnel and civilians. Civilians have been targeted by suicide bombers,
improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and targeted killings, while security
personnel are targeted by bomb blasts, grenade attacks and targeted killings.
In
the majority of cases, these acts of terror are perpetrated against softtargets such as crowded marketplaces, educational institutions, and places of
worship. In some cases, however, terror attacks have also been aimed at
military installations and high-profile political figures.
The most recent wave of terrorist attacks has been particularly devastating for civilian populations, causing tremendous loss of life and property. In December 2019, a suicide attack on a church in Quetta killed 9 people and injured more than 50 others. In February 2020, a terrorist attack at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan Sharif claimed the lives of 83 people and injured more than 250 others. These attacks have demonstrated the total disregard for human life that exists among terrorists and are a stark reminder of the dangers posed by these individuals to innocent civilians in Pakistan.
The Motives
The motives behind the present wave of terrorism in Pakistan
are complex and multidimensional. Some analysts suggest that it is a reaction
to US and NATO’s military interventions in Afghanistan, as well as to a
heightened presence of security forces in tribal areas. Others suggest that a
combination of religious and political ideologies is driving the attacks. It
has also been suggested that the Taliban and other militant groups use
terrorism to gain political power or to establish themselves as legitimate
actors in the region.
Whatever the motives may be, it is clear that the victims of
this wave of terror are innocent civilians, many of whom have suffered
unimaginable trauma and loss of life. The perpetrators of these attacks are yet
to be identified, however, what remains certain is that the repercussions of
this wave of terrorism in Pakistan will be felt for years to come.
The Perpetrators
The present wave of terrorist attacks in Pakistan has been
attributed to a variety of groups. The two most prominent are the Taliban,
which is an Islamist militant organization, and al-Qaeda, an international
terrorist network. The Taliban has become increasingly active in the region
since it was ousted from power in 2001. They have been responsible for numerous
attacks on civilians, including bombings, kidnappings and assassinations.
Al-Qaeda has also been present in Pakistan for some time, though their activity
has been less prevalent in recent years.
Both organizations have been accused of carrying out suicide
bombings and other terrorist activities in order to achieve their goals. In
addition to these two main perpetrators, a number of smaller militant
organizations have also been active in the region. These include groups such as
Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Sipah-e-Sahaba. These groups have mainly targeted
religious minorities in the country, such as Shia Muslims, Ahmadiyya Muslims
and Christians.
In recent years, the Pakistani government has taken a number
of steps to combat terrorism in the country, including launching military
operations against the Taliban and other militant groups. However, these
efforts have not been successful in completely eliminating the threat of
terrorism in the region. As such, the current wave of terrorism continues to
pose a serious threat to the safety and security of the people of Pakistan.
The Aftermath
The present wave of terrorism in Pakistan has had a
devastating effect on the people of the country. With the death and destruction
caused by the attacks, people are living in fear and insecurity. Thousands of
lives have been lost and many more have been affected either physically or
emotionally. People have had to leave their homes and belongings in order to
seek safety in other areas of the country or abroad. In addition, businesses,
schools and public services have been disrupted, causing further economic and
social problems.
The Pakistani government has taken measures to try and curb
the violence and protect citizens. Security forces have been deployed to guard
public places and there has been an increase in the use of surveillance
technologies. The government has also been investing in counter-terrorism
operations, aiming to stop any potential attacks before they occur.
Author's View:
In my view, the current wave of terrorism in pakistan have devastating effects on whole of Pakistani society. It is difficult to tell what the long-term effects of this present wave of terrorism will be. It is clear, however, that the people of Pakistan have suffered greatly and that the trauma of these attacks will remain for many years to come. It is essential that the Pakistani government continues to take action to protect its citizens from future attacks, so that the country can move forward from this terrible period in its history.
Well done
